Mercedes' 410kW family wagon

Come next year, Mercedes-Benz will be offering the sizzling performance of its 5.5-litre twin turbo V8 in an AMG63 CLS Shooting Brake.

Five pre-sale 410kW CLS 63s wagons are already heading to Australia for special AMG clients. (One is in New Zealand).

Regular supplies of the CLS Shooting Brake CLS 63 will start in May, though orders are being taken now.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is yet to settle on pricing for the powerhouse wagon but it will have a “2” up front, according to a spokesman.

Australia has the world's highest take-up rate of AMG products per capita and is heading for a record volume of about 1200 this year.

The hottest sellers are the C-Class variants, which are 50 per cent up on last year. The ML AMG 63 SUV is now the second most popular AMG product locally.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is planning to capitalise on the AMG fervour with a group of models from the performance arm.

These include the big GL63 AMG, a dramatically facelifted E63 AMG, the much-discussed pocket-rocket A45 AMG (with a price and performance to draw new customers to the brand), the stylish CLA45 AMG and, about a year from now, the S63 AMG.
