With the release of the all-new Jaguar XE SV Project 8 – the most powerful road legal Jaguar in history – it's safe to say that the luxury automotive brand are taking things to the next level.
On track to test out the new Project 8 first hand, we were blown away by the ferocious capabilities of this two-door (four-door also available) sedan.
It's hard to put into words just how powerful this piece of machinery is. Strictly limited to 300 cars worldwide, Project 8 is hot property in the luxury sector as it truly takes the Jaguar brand to an exhilarating new level; one of pure adrenaline!
A performance like no other
With a whopping 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 engine that produces 600PS and 700Nm of torque, the Project 8 can take you 0 to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, whilst reaching a frightening top speed of 322km/h. It's this level of power and performance that rivals even some of the best race cars in the world.
"Project 8 is quite simply highlighting what the Jaguar brand is capable of. It's a story of capability and it's set to emphasise what is coming with the all-new XE range," says Kevin Nicholls, Marketing Director at Jaguar Land Rover Australia.
"More than that, Jaguar is one of few brands that can stretch as far producing one of the fastest V8 Supercharged engines on the market, and then go across and design one of the most successful electrified vehicles in the I-PACE - Project 8 is simply highlighting the brand's versatility."
Hand-assembled by a team of dedicated technicians at the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) centre in Warwickshire, England Project 8 is elevating Jaguar to new heights thanks to commitment to outstanding quality and craftsmanship.
Drive and handling
Engineered to combine maximum driving dynamics with outstanding agility, Project 8 was surprisingly easy to handle at 270km/h zipping down Sandown Raceway.
One hundred per cent all wheel drive functionality ensures incredible responsiveness, traction and agility, especially when soaring around bends; no car has ever felt more 'alive' than Project 8.
Breaking is also so technologically advanced that stopping at absurd speeds is as easy as a firm push on the pedal.
Project 8 has also been designed to offer an aerodynamic performance essential to a vehicle travelling up to speeds of 322km/h. Extremely lightweight and low to the ground, you feel a genuine connection to the road when put behind the wheel.
An experience like no other
After spending a day test-driving Project 8, it's fair to say that there isn't a vehicle that can mirror its capabilities in the current sedan sector.
"Jaguar has always been a performance brand with a true value for money, performance-based proposition," says Nicholls.
"What you get with Jaguar is a beautiful car with an enviable exterior, a premium luxurious interior, and a performance like no other. We're not trying to outsell BMW, Audi or Mercedes-Benz; we think there is a niche of enthusiasts that want something different, and models such as the Project 8 is there to fulfil these needs and expectations.
Art of performance
Crafted to push the limit of performance, the Art of Performance tour is a series of events aimed at Jaguar owners and enthusiasts to showcase the full capabilities of Jaguar vehicles; from performance and innovation to design and engineering.
Much like our Jaguar track day at Sandown in Melbourne, guests are introduced to the Jaguar brand and invited to fully explore the performance of different car models in a safe and monitored environment, thanks to the guidance of a one-on-one driving instructor. It's services like these that really showcase what Jaguar can do.
